Cumberland Library: Summer reading

CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Public Library is once again putting on a summer program with fun and games for everyone – track your reading online, play games, complete missions, and be a part of a reading community.

Join the library at its Summer Reading Kickoff Party on Monday, June 26, from 2 to 6 p.m. (Rain date will be Tuesday, June 27). All ages are invited to visit the library and sign up for the Summer Reading Program.

Children through Grade 5 are invited to enjoy programs, storytimes and live performances this summer.

Some highlights include: Minecraft Club, Introduction to SCRATCH, Paws to Read, Book Buddies, Tween Time, Babies and Books, and much, much more. Summer Reading Information: For every 20 minutes that you read, you will earn 20 points for prizes at the ‘Summer Library Store.’ Spend your points or save them; it is your choice. Or, you can donate some of your reading minutes to “help the children of Syria.” The library’s goal is for children to read for 20 minutes each day.

Teens entering Grades 6 through 12 can spend the summer learning to animate, participating in gaming tournaments, or completing virtual fieldtrips. There will be a Teen Paint Party, a day of Library Mini Golf, lots of volunteer opportunities and much more. Teen readers will log their summer reading progress in our online app and will be entered into weekly drawings for gift cards, as well as raffles for bigger prizes. All teens who complete the summer program are eligible to attend an end-ofsummer party with food, prizes, and a sumo wrestling tournament.

Adults (ages 18-plus) have the opportunity to win some great prizes this summer. By reading a book or listening to an audiobook, and then submitting an entry form online or at the reference desk, you become eligible to win weekly drawings. Prizes include gift cards to local businesses as well as three grand prizes.
