D-4 games rescheduled
If you’re in the mood to watch Little League baseball, Cumberland’s Garvin Field and Lincoln’s Randy Hien Field are the places to be this afternoon.
Friday afternoon’s heavy rain forced the postponement of a number of District 4 contests. The biggest of those games, the Major Division winners’ bracket final between Cumberland American and Scituate/Foster, will now be played at 1:30 p.m. at Garvin Field.
That game will be the second of a tripleheader at the field, which is located behind the Cumberland Police Station on Diamond Hill Road. The Cumberland National 10year-old all-stars will face Burrillville in the District 4 winners’ bracket final at 11 a.m.
In the final contest of the tripleheader, the Cumberland National Major Division squad looks to rebound from a loss in its first game against Burrillville at 4 p.m.
Hien Field will be the home of the other winners’ bracket final, as Lincoln, which is filled with kids who won last year’s 10-year-old New England title, faces Cumberland National in the 11-yearold winners’ bracket final at 1:30 p.m. That contest will be followed by Lincoln’s Major Division losers’ bracket tilt with North Smithfield.
The winner of that contest will be back in action Sunday against Smithfield at a time and site to be determined.
Pacheco Park will host an 11year-old losers’ bracket contest between North Smithfield and Woonsocket at 11 a.m., while Cumberland American looks to keep its season going against Smithfield ad Deerfield Park at 5:30 p.m.
The biggest game on the other side of the Valley will take place at Pawtucket’s Darlington Little League where the Darlington American Major Division all-stars look to bounce back from Thursday’s defeat to Bristol when city rival Pineview visits for a 5:45 p.m. contest.
The teams met earlier in the District 2 tournament with DALL coming away with a 12-2 victory. The winner of the contest will face either Portsmouth or Barrington in an elimination game Monday night.
