WOONSOCKET— A 45year-old woman allegedly grew so frustrated that her adult son refused to move out that she assaulted him with a hammer Saturday.

Donna Fisher is facing charges of felony domestic assault with a deadly weapon, domestic disorderly conduct and domestic vandalism in connection with the incident.

Police said Fisher twice summoned them to her apartment at 75 Chestnut St. in the hours preceding the alleged attack. Both times, she told them she wanted her 27-yearold son removed from the residence and they advised her to speak to the landlord. Up to that point, police said there was no evidence of a crime, and they made no arrests.

Shortly after 10 a.m., however, police said they were summoned to the apartment again, and this time Fisher’s 27-year-old son was the caller – not his mother. After meeting him outside the apartment, police said the son told them his mother had

repeatedly struck him with a hammer and was still upstairs smashing his belongings with it.

When police went inside they found the premises in disarray, with a hammer on the floor near a damaged cell phone and a torn piece of a clothing Fisher had been wearing during the altercation.

The man told investigators the argument got physical when his mother took possession of his house keys and began threading them onto her own key ring. He told police he followed his mother into another room and reclaimed his keys, at which point she allegedly grabbed a hammer and came after him, striking him in the hand and forearm.

As she continued to attack him with the tool, he ran for the door. He told police his mother tried to pull him back in the house by his shirt, which ripped into pieces before he managed to escape.

The last thing he saw as he broke free was his mother pounding his cell phone with the hammer.

Police said the victim told police he did not require medical attention.

Another of Fisher’s children – a fivemonth old infant – was present during the attack. Police reports say the state Department for Children, Youth and Families took custody of the baby after Fisher was arrested.

Fisher was released pending another hearing on Oct. 23 following her arraignment in District Court on Monday.

She was ordered to have no contact with her son as a condition of her release.
