BGC Pawtucket drops final two pool play contests
Northeast regional champions begin playoffs Friday morning in Cincinnati
CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Boys and Girls Club of Pawtucket RBI Junior Division squad closed out pool play at the World Series with a 10-1 five-inning defeat to Dominican Republic RBI Wednesday morning at P&G Cincinnati Youth Academy.
Pawtucket finished pool play with a 1-2 record and will play a quarterfinal contest Friday morning against an opponent from the tournament’s East pool.
Pawtucket starting pitching Kyle Deluca suffered the loss after allowing nine runs on nine hits in 2.1 innings of work. Reliever Scott Brunelle allowed just three hits and an unearned run in 2.2 innings on the hill.
The Northeast regional champions scored their only run against winning pitcher Albaro Santana in the second inning when Giovanni Canales reached base, stole second and scored on a single by Brunelle. The team’s only other hit came in the second inning when Jacob Gaudreau led off with a single.
The Dominican Republic, which scored three runs in the first to take complete control of the contest, received two hits and three runs scored from leadoff hitter Yoniel Ramirez. Alberto Pacheco, Roberto Solis and Ismael Mota all had a pair of hits and scored a run in the victory.
