Senior sculpture exhibit, reception at Leon Mathieu

-

PAWTUCKET — The sculptures of Pawtucket’s seniors will be revealed and on display at the Leon Mathieu Senior Center on Friday, Aug. 11, at 10:30 a.m.

The seniors worked with artist and foundryman Chris Kane and his students from the Jacqueline Walsh School for the Performing and Visual Arts to learn the art of lost wax metal casting and created a cycle of cast aluminum sculptures. This intergenerational program, sponsored by Tunstall Americas, enabled youth and older adults of the community to come together, share life experiences, and create beautiful works of art.

The sculptures were previously on display at the Dawn at the Grant Art Gallery and Pawtucket City Hall through the Pawtucket Advisory Commission on Arts and Culture and its initiative to bring art to public spaces. Following this exhibit, some of the sculptures will remain on display at the sponsoring company Tunstall Americas corporate headquarters and the Leon Mathieu Senior Center. The Senior Center and the City of Pawtucket extend their thanks to Tunstall Americas for funding this project and to Artist Kane for leading this project.

Seniors 55 and older and members of the press are invited to this free event. Light refreshments will be served.
