Documentary ‘Find Fronsdal’ premieres Saturday
EAST GREENWICH — Hollywood filmmaker Kevin Morra returns to his native Rhode Island for the world premiere of his documentary “Find Fronsdal,” a partnership of his Swift River Productions and AARP, Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Greenwich Odeum as part of the R.I. International Film Festival.
After the passing of his father, Morra, a documentarian, searches for a meaningful subject to film as a way of reflection and self-healing. He soon discovers the story of an 85-year-old physicist named Christian Fronsdal, who, despite his age, is currently sailing by himself from Panama to French Polynesia over the course of several weeks. But before filming is set to begin, all communication from Fronsdal suddenly stops and fear for his safety sets in. With the blessing and encouragement from Fronsdal’s wife, Morra instead directs the film as a jour- ney to 'Find Fronsdal.'
The search begins on a small atoll in French Polynesia called Fakarava. There, Morra discovers individuals from all around the world who participate in the pursuit to find the missing physicist. The quest intensifies into a philosophical adventure that pushes an intimate conversation surrounding some of life's biggest questions.
Emmy-nominated and Gold Lion-winning director Morra has produced and directed dozens of television series (“Top Chef,” “Man Caves,” “The Henry Rollins Show,” “Project Greenlight”) documentary series (“Henry Rollins Uncut,” “Capitalism”) and commercial projects (Microsoft, T-Mobile, PayPal, Dole) with an assortment of talent including Jeff Bridges, Werner Herzog, Penelope Cruz, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Kevin Hart, Matt Damon, and Chris Pratt.
