2 feared dead in crash
WOONSOCKET – Police are investigating a horrific single-car crash on Mendon Road Wednesday evening that is reported to have resulted in the deaths of two of the four occupants of the vehicle and serious injuries to a third.
Woonsocket police were remaining tight-lipped about the fatal incident Wednesday night confirming only that it occurred at about 5 p.m. and remains under investigation.
“We are not going to comment on anything tonight,” Det. Sgt. Matthew Ryan, the department’s spokesman, said when contacted about the crash last night. “Everything is under investigation right now and our investigation is continuing,” Ryan said. “When our investigation is complete we will be putting some information out,” he added.
According to reports obtained by The Call, the vehicle involved in the crash was heading south on Mendon Road toward the Mendon Road Fire Station when it veered to the right into a utility pole in front of 715 Mendon Road. A woman, 59, and a 13-year-old boy from Central Falls were reported killed in the crash. A9-yearold boy from Woonsocket, also in the vehicle, was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Witnesses at the scene rushed to the vehicle and attempted to give aid to those in the vehicle. Rescue personnel
worked at the crash scene while traffic was blocked through Mendon Road and diverted onto side streets.

The woman killed was reported to be the grandmother of one of the boys in the vehicle, according to reports.
The crash came as Woonsocket opened school earlier in the day for stu- dents at the middle school, elementary schools and freshmen at the high school.
Further details on the victims and what school the boy from Woonsocket attended could not be obtained Wednesday night.
