Broncos down Tigers Novans shut out Purple
TIVERTON — Kat Wheeler found Dezarae Parkhurst for goal on a penalty corner with just 3 minutes, 27 seconds left in regulation to lead the Burrillville field hockey team to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Tiverton Thursday afternoon.
Burrillville (2-0 Division IINorth) trailed after an Arianna Helger first-half effort, but junior forward Jenna Deschamps tied the game early in the second half on a breakaway effort.
Deschamps connected with Wheeler on a penalty corner to put Burrillville ahead, but Maya LaBrecque scored less than a minute later to even the scores.
Jade Simoneau made five saves for the Broncos, who host Valley rival Woonsocket Tuesday afternoon.
WOONSOCKET — After watching his team give up nine goals in the season opener Tuesday afternoon, Woonsocket field hockey coach Dan Belisle had a few choice words for his squad at Wednesday’s practice.
The Villa Novans responded to their coach’s message, as Tayla Darling produced a goal and an assist and central defender Jahnise Robinson played a superb game to lead the Woonsocket to a 2-0 Division II-North win over the Purple at Barry Field.
Woonsocket (1-1 Division II-North) scored the only goal it would need five minutes into the contest when Darling spotted Shelbie Roy for a goal. Darling doubled the lead at 57 minutes thanks to an assist from Danielle Fernandes. Goalie Alexis Masse made 12 saves.
