McClure, Broncos sweep quad-meet

BURRILLVIL­LE — The Burrillvil­le boys cross country team took a big step toward automatic qualificat­ion for November’s state meet with an impressive 25-32 victory over Smithfield Monday afternoon at Burrillvil­le Middle School.

Burrillvil­le’s Andrew McClure (16 minutes, 41 seconds) and Cameron Charron (16:50) claimed the top two spots in the Northern Division quadmeet. Tommy Ames finished fourth and Mitchell Dailey was sixth to also lead the Broncos to 15-50 victories over North Providence and Central Falls.

Burrillvil­le (5-1 Northern Division) is on course for a second-place showdown with Lincoln in the final week of the season, but next week the Broncos host Ponaganset and Mount St. Charles.

The Burrillvil­le girls squad posted a 15-50 victory over Central Falls and a 23-32 victory over North Providence, but the Broncos suffered a 22-37 defeat to the Sentinels. Smithfield claimed the top two spots before Burrillvil­le’s Sabrina Charron crossed the finish line in 20:30. Nikki Felice was fifth in 22:38 and Haley Labossiere was sixth in 22:43.

Clippers stop Lions, Patriots

LINCOLN — The Cumberland girls cross country team took the top six spots in Monday’s Northern Division meet at Chase Farm to down local rivals Lincoln and Davies Tech Monday afternoon.

Clipper sophomore Adah Anderson took medalist honors in a time of 20 minutes, 2 seconds. Freshman Olivia Belt (20:23), Grace Henson (20:34), Bailee Brown (20:38), Lauren Nigri (22:36) and Emma Gaudreau (22:38) took the next five spots.

Lincoln (0-3 Northern Division) was led by Julia Heroux, who finished seventh in a time of 23:00. Teammate Abbey O’Hearn came in 10th in 23:38. The Lions are back in action next Tuesday at Chase Farm against Davies, North Smithfield, Woonsocket, North Providence and Central Falls.
