Pawtucket West opens its 1959 grid campaign when they entertain Woonsocket, coached by Pawtucket’s Jack McKinnon, at McCoy Stadium. Coach Win Dodge’s backfield will be comprised of Stan Abrams at QB, dependable Mike Farrands at fullback and hard-running Henry Levin and either Kevin Shackett or John Hulme at the halfback slots. The offensive wall has Vin Leonard and Bill Borenstein at the ends, Steve Domenico and Dan Saccucci at the tackles, Ron Max and Paul Baird at the guards and center Dave Harrison.

Coach Paul Dalpe, pleasantly surprised with the performance of his Lincoln Lions in their 28-14 win over Scituate, will meet coach Howie Laport’s Burrillville eleven in their next grid contest. The defensive lineup for the Lions will have Jim Carr and Bob Meunier at the ends, Steve Knowlton and Ron Albert at the tackles, Dick Lauzon at middle guard, Don Simpson, Steve Nichols, Kevin Gorman and Tim Sullivan as the linebackers and Rich Elderkin, Jimmy Sullivan and Ed Domenici in the secondary.

1989

QB Kevin Dunphy gained 106 yards on 17 carries and scored one touchdown, wingback Jon Mello rushed for 90 yards and one TD and running back Mike King produced 72 yards and one tally as Saint Raphael Academy ran all over Pilgrim 26-6 on mushy Pariseau Field presenting new football coach Dean Swanson with his initial win in a Class B-One contest. Mello electrified the SRA fans when he caught the opening kickoff on his 10 and sprinted virtually untouched to the Pilgrim end zone for a quick 6-0 lead and added a 40-yard TD gallop later in the first quarter. Dunphy capped a 65-yard, 11-play drive with a seven-yard run and King scored on a four-yard scamper, while linebacker Paul Massud led a tough Saints defense limiting the Patriots to 104 yards.
