Tolman picks up win

EAST PROVIDENCE — The Tolman girls tennis team picked up its first victory of the season thanks to a number of impressive performanc­es from girls playing in unfamiliar roles.

Victoria Chmielinsk­i bumped up from No. 1 doubles to post a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles, while the Tigers newlook doubles teams all earned victories in a 5-2 Division III victory over Providence Country Day Monday afternoon at Kendbrin Courts.

Tolman (1-5 Division III) also received victories from No. 2 singles player Sarah Colson and the doubles teams of Taina Rodriguez and Jennifer Miranda, Jennifer Miranda and Zoe Williams, and Alexis Taylor and Jacqueline Affriyieb.

The Tigers host reigning champion East Providence Thursday at Slater Park.

Saints beat Pilgrim

PAWTUCKET — St. Raphael received singles victories from Emily Fournier, Emily Miranda and Deanna Squires to hand Pilgrim its first Division III loss of the season, 4-3, Monday afternoon at Vets Park.

St. Raphael (2-4 Division III) also received a 6-2, 6-2 victory from Molly Frazier and Jillian Hughes at No. 1 doubles. The biggest match of the afternoon came at No. 4 singles where Squires overcame a 4-6 defeat in the first set to defeat Alana Resende.

The Saints are back in action this afternoon against West Warwick at Riverpoint Park.
