‘The Dribbler’ a slam dunk at Mercymount
Former Globetrotter shows off hoop skills, delivers positive message at assembly
CUMBERLAND — Students at Mercymount Country Day School were entertained by Corey ‘The Dribbler’ at a recent enrichment assembly.
Corey Rich travels across the country providing an entertaining basketball program geared toward respect, confidence, achieving your dreams and being a good person.
Rich communicates his message while entertaining with basketball tricks and skills that he has perfected as a member of the Court Jesters and Harlem Globetrotters. He showed off signature moves such as rolling basketballs over his shoulders, the index-finger spin and bouncing up to six balls simultaneously. He also engaged the students with audience participation and individual challenges.
“Whether it’s making the Harlem Globetrotters or making it anywhere else, you’re a lot more likely to make it with hard work and respect. II went to the library, got a 500-page book on the Globetrotters and read it in two days,” he said
His knowledge of the team’s history and goals impressed the team, which was looking for more than “quick hands with the ball.” The Globetrotters wanted “not just a good basketball player, but a good person,” he said.
“Being nice to classmates and peers is one part of respect, and means not putting them down behind their backs as well as being decent to their faces. Respecting teachers and adults is also important and a big part of that is keeping your eyes on the person speaking, to let them know you’re paying attention.”
The students in grades kindergarten through eighth enjoyed the active assembly and the chance to interact with Corey ‘The Dribbler’
