City man accused of domestic attacks

WOONSOCKET – First, he forced his way into her home to commandeer her cell phone so he could check her messaging history, accusing her of cheating on him, police say.

Three days later, Carl Michael Perry allegedly did it again, only this time he dragged his 37-year-old girlfriend onto the porch and repeatedly punched her in the face before he fled on foot.

Perry, 37, was arrested Friday – after police were summoned to his girlfriend’s Read Avenue for the third time since Oct. 1 – for a report of an argument. It was the first time police had located Perry

on the premises during any of the three occasions for which they’d been called for help, and officers subsequently took him into custody on a string of charges, including domestic assault and battery, and two counts each of domestic burglary and domestic disorderly conduct.

A judge set bail for Perry, of 358 Privilege St., following a preliminary appearance in Sixth District Court.

But Perry nevertheless spent the weekend at the Adult Correctional Institutions, held without bail on a warrant stemming from his responsibility to pay fines tied to a 2008 conviction for possession of a controlled substance, according to state Department of Corrections. The warrant was cancelled following another appearance in court yesterday, the judiciary’s web site says.

He’s due back in court for another hearing on the domestic assault and related charges on Jan. 16.

Meanwhile, Perry was ordered to have no contact with the woman he is accused of attacking – the mother of his three children, according to police reports.

Patrol Officer Andrew Girard said police were first summoned to the victim’s apartment on Oct. 1, at which point she told police Perry showed up drunk about 5 in the morning and kicked the door in. Perry allegedly called her names and began rifling through the belongings in her room.

Perry was upset about comments he had seen her sharing with certain Facebook friends and made off with her cell phone, according to police.

Police took a report and issued a warrant for Perry’s arrest on one count of domestic burglary.

Perry allegedly repeated the pattern on Oct. 4, when he allegedly kicked in his girlfriend’s apartment door a second time about 9:30 p.m. This time he lashed out physically against her, however.

Apolice report says he also came bearing a gift for his children – a television set – and announced he’d gone through her cell phone to discover proof that she’d been involved romantically with other men. An argument erupted over text messages he’d found on the phone, then Perry allegedly grabbed her by the neck and forced her against the banister of a porch railing.

Perry allegedly struck her twice in the head with a closed fist before running off. Police looked for Perry but couldn’t find him and issued yet another set of warrants for his arrest.

When he was finally taken into custody Friday, police said they were summoned to the Read Avenue apartment for a report of an argument, but his girlfriend told him no crime had been committed and no new charges were lodged against Perry at that time.
