October 19 1962

Tolman fullback Tommy Knott is the rushing leader among Blackstone Valley schoolboys with 257 yards in 40 attempts as the football season approaches the halfway mark. Rounding out the top five ball-carriers are Ken Demers of Pawtucket West (177 yards), Saint Raphael Academy halfback Ron Demeulenae­re (137), Bob LaFlamme of Cumberland (119) and Clipper teammate Warren Procter is fifth with 117 yards. LaFlamme holds a slim lead in the scoring race with 20 points while SRA’s Jimmy Bizier is next with 19.

1982

“We were not to be denied today,” said an emotional Cumberland football coach Tom Carlson as his Clippers overcame all obstacles in dealing Cranston West a 14-12 defeat in a Class AA tilt. QB John George hooked up with receiver Paul Giguere on two touchdown passes of 16 yards in the first quarter and a third period 21-yarder. Both times, kicker Paul Murphy was successful in his PAT boots, giving Cumberland its margin of victory.

1992

Buddy Rodgers of East Providence is the leading rusher among Times Area schoolboys with 621 yards on 48 carries for a 12.9 yards/carry average which includes the longest run of the season - a 97-yard jaunt. Rounding out the top five ballcarrie­rs are Shea’s Anthony Dantzler (587 yards), Toney Barker of Saint Raphael Academy (532), Mark Roderick of Shea (383) and Cumberland’s Eric Edge (357). Rodgers is also tops in scoring with 72 points on 12 touchdowns with Roderick next with 58 points.
