Providence man arraigned on first-degree murder charge in death of Marcelino Debarros
PAWTUCKET – A 21-yearold Providence man charged in the fatal shooting of a Pawtucket amateur boxer was ordered held without bail at his arraignment in Providence District Court Monday.
Cedric Dalomba of 54 Friendship St., Providence, is charged with first-degree murder and felony assault after he shot 20-year-old Marcelino Debarros and Debarros’ 23-year-old cousin, Jalin Braxton, at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
The two men were found Saturday morning at their 34 Beechwood Avenue apartment with gunshot wounds. Debarros was declared dead upon arrival at Rhode Island Hospital, and Braxton was treated and released.
Dalomba was arraigned before a bail commissioner over the weekend and at his arraignment Monday, Judge Anthony Capraro ordered him held without bail. Dalomba was already serving probation on a domestic assault charge from last April, according to police.
A bail hearing for Dalomba was set for Dec. 1.
Police say the three men knew each other and were roommates until Dalomba was forced to leave the apartment they shared earlier this month.
According to neighbors, Debarros and Dalomba were reportedly best friends before Dalomba was asked to move out of the apartment.
Police said Dalomba came back early Saturday morning with a revolver, and shot Debarros and Braxton, who also lived in the apartment. Debarros was shot in the face and back and died on the way to the hospital.
Debarros, an amateur boxer and three-time Golden Glove champion for New England, trained at Big Six Boxing Academy in Providence, a family-owned and operated gym and home of 2004 olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada.
Debarros had won several Massachusetts boxing tournaments in recent years, including the Southern New England Golden Gloves boxing championship last year. He was widely known as one of Big Six Boxing Academy’s best fighters.
Over the weekend, candles and flowers were placed in front of the apartment on Beechwood Avenue, including a pair of boxing gloves.
