PAWTUCKET — A Woonsocket woman was charged with domestic felony assault after she allegedly struck the father of her child with a wooden table leg after forcing her way into his apartment on New Year’s Eve, Pawtucket Police said.

Police arrived on Main Street at 11:33 p.m. Sunday after being advised of a 911 call and that the woman who called police said she’d been assaulted. Upon arrival, the officers saw that the caller – identified as Dominique Brogan of no known address in Woonsocket – was seated on the ground outside of 249 Main St.

When police tried to talk to Brogan, she spoke with a “heavily slurred speech” and said she’d been assaulted by the father of her child, police said. Brogan said that earlier in the night, she’d arrived at his apartment to retrieve a coat and claimed that once inside, she was assaulted for no specific reason, claiming he’d punched her “at least 10 times” and held her to the ground.

When police located the man, they saw that he too had visible injuries, most notably dried blood on his face and an injury to the top of his head, according to a police report.

The man told police that he’d been sleeping in his apartment earlier that evening when he heard several loud bangs from his front glass door, police said. He said he opened the door to find a “highly intoxicated” Brogan, who allegedly forced her way into the apartment by shoving him. Once inside, Brogan allegedly continued to attack the man, at one point breaking a table, grabbing a broken table leg, and using it as a weapon to strike the man in the head, police said.

Two witnesses confirmed the man’s description of the night’s events, saying that Brogan forced her way into his apartment when he opened the door and that they heard him ask her to leave several times, yet she allegedly continued to assault him. However, neither saw her strike him with the wooden table leg.

The victim was transported by Pawtucket Rescue to Roger Williams Hospital.

Brogan was arrested and charged with felony domestic breaking and entering and domestic felony assault, as well as misdemeanor charges of violation of a no-contact order, domestic vandalism, and domestic disorderly conduct, according to police records.

Brogan was arraigned on Tuesday, according to the judiciary website. She’s due back in court for a Jan. 16 control date and an April 6 pre-arraignment conference.
