PAWTUCKET — Lauren Plociak scored 15 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Cranston West to a 45-43 upset win over St. Raphael in a Division I preliminary round game on Friday night. Amaya Dowdy scored 13 points for St. Raphael, the tournament’s No. 6 seed. The Falcons were seeded 11th.
Broncos roll
BURILLVILLE — The Burrillville girls’ basketball team had little trouble in its Division III preliminary-round game on Friday night, rolling to a decisive 56-29 win over Mount Pleasant.
Next up for the Broncos is a trip to Pawtucket and a matchup against Shea in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night.
Burrillville, which led 26-8 at halftime, received 16 points from Jocelyn Valliere and 14 points and eight rebounds from Liz Ethier. Alyssa Simpson added 11 points and eight rebounds.
B.V. Prep coasts
CUMBERLAND — A solid all-around performance by Marceline Marchand proved to be the difference in Blackstone Valley Prep’s 4936 win over Toll Gate in Division III preliminary-round action on Friday night. Marchand posted a double-double with 18 points and 19 rebounds and she also had five steals and two blocked shots.
It was the first playoff win for the Pride in what is only their second year of competing in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League.
B.V. Prep, which received 11 points from Sole Miranda, will travel to Tiverton on Tuesday.
