CUMBERLAND — A veteran educator and former East Bridgewater school superintendent has been named as the new interim principal for Cumberland High School, School Superintendent Robert Mitchell has announced. Dr. Susan T. Cote begins her first day on the job today and will be introduced to high school staff during a faculty meeting Wednesday. Cote will serve as interim principal through the end of the current school year. Cote succeeds former interim Principal Donna Charlton, who resigned from her $114,000 a year position in December. Charlton replaced former Principal Alan Tenreiro, who left the district last year to become president of Mount St. Charles Academy. “I’m thrilled to be able to bring someone of Dr. Cote’s experience, enthusiasm, and leadership to our high school,” Mitchell
said. According to Mitchell, Cumberland Assistant School Superintendent Tony DiManna was “pulling double duty” by serving as interim principal at CHS since Jan. 2. “I want to publicly thank Mr. DiManna for his efforts these past few weeks,” Mitchell said. “He has truly done an outstanding job.” A former math and science teacher, high school science department chair, and elementary school principal, Cote was the assistant superintendent in the Swansea Public Schools from 2001-2005. She went on to serve as assistant superintendent in the East Bridgewater Public Schools from 2005-2009 before being named superintendent of East Bridgewater from 2009 to 2013. A graduate of Boston College, Cote holds an advanced degree from Fitchburg State College in education management. She earned a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Northeastern University. She teaches graduate courses and oversees administrative and teacher practicum students at Curry College and American International College.
