Only one contest on Bellingham election ballot

BELLINGHAM – Voters on May 1 will decide the only race on this year’s annual town election ballot, a two-way race for one three-year seat on the Bellingham Housing Authority.

Polls at the Bellingham High School gymnasium will be open from 7 a.m. to

8 p.m.

The two candidates in the Housing Authority race are Mark R. Ladouceur, of 47 Wrentham Manor, and Billiegene A. Lavallee, of

6 Joseph Rosenfeld Way.

Ladouceur is a lifelong Bellingham resident and a maintenanc­e supervisor for the past 27 years.

Lavallee, a town resident since 1954, is a a business and technology teacher at Bellingham High School. She has been the governor’s appointee to the Bellingham Housing Authority for the past 23 years.

There are seven unopposed candidates on the election ballot, including:

• Michael J. Connor and Cynthia L. McNulty, Board of Selectmen (3 years).

• Carol Bird, Library Trustee (3 years)

• Brian Salisbury and Dennis T. Trebino, Planning Board (3 years).

• Mark J. Flannery and Melissa Jacques, School Committee (three years).

The deadline to return papers with signatures of registered voters was March 13.

The rest of the town official election calendar is as follows:

• Tuesday, May 1: Annual town election.

• Friday, May 11: Last day to file a recount petition.

The Annual Town Meeting this year will be held Wednesday, May 23, and the Special Town Meeting will be held in October on a date to be determined.

The state primary election will be held Tuesday, Sept. 4, and the state general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6.

There are three candidates running for the 8th Worcester District state representa­tive seat, which represents the towns of Bellingham, Blackstone, Millville and Uxbridge. They are Democrats Kevin J. Tagliaferr­i of Bellingham and Patrick Malone of Uxbridge, and Republican Michael Soter of Bellingham.

The seat is being vacated in November by Republican state Rep. Kevin Kuros. Kuros is not seeking re-election, and will challenge longtime Worcester Registrar of Deeds Anthony J. Vigliotti next year.
