N.S. Police seek public’s help in finding suspect
NORTH SMITHFIELD — Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a man described as a career criminal after he managed to escape following a combative confrontation with officers who tried to arrest him Tuesday.
Carlos Webster, 44, has been arrested more than 30 times since 1994 on charges that resulted in more than two dozen convictions on multiple counts of possession of a controlled substance; felony domestic assault; breaking and entering; resisting arrest; driving on a suspended license; and others, according to the judiciary’s website.
On Tuesday, officers pulled over a vehicle operated by Webster, who allegedly gave a false name and was “acting erratic and suspiciously,” police said in a statement. When officers attempted to detain him, he allegedly began struggling and assaulted them.
Webster fled the scene in the vehicle, which was later found abandoned on I-295 south after it was disabled in a minor accident.
Police say Webster currently has three active District Court bench warrants and will be facing new criminal and civil charges as a result of his latest encounter with local police.
He is currently believed to be residing in North Smithfield but has several other addresses in Providence and Woonsocket, according to police.
Webster is 5 feet, 10 inches tall, about 250 pounds and has a bald head. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to call the North Smithfield police at 401-762-1212, ext. 0.
