Dubois, Lawrence dominate to help Mount earn road win

PROVIDENCE — The top three Mount St. Charles tennis team’s singles players earned victories along with the No. 1 doubles team of Shaan Arora and Dre Danneker to defeat La Salle Academy, 4-3, in a Division I contest Monday afternoon.

Senior No. 1 singles player Matt Dubois, senior No. 2 singles player Jacob Lawrence and junior No. 3 singles player Anuj Swaminatha­n all picked up straight-set victories. Arora and Danneker battled back from a oneset deficit to earn a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory.

The Mounties are back in action this afternoon in Woonsocket when East Greenwich comes to town to finish up a match that was halted Thursday because of rain. Six of the seven matches are late in the first set, while the No. 3 doubles match has yet to start.

SAVATDY WINS IN NOVAN LOSS

WOONSOCKET —Woonsocket junior No. 1 singles player Khameron Savatdy continued a strong season with a three-set victory over Westerly’s Sam Kuzu in Monday afternoon’s 6-1 Division III defeat to the Bulldogs at Aylsworth Courts.

Savatdy also qualified for the state tournament next Friday at Slater Park when he defeated Westerly’s Ryan Teixeira in two sets last week at the Division III qualifying tournament.

No. 2 singles player Andy Ratsopho, who dropped an 7-5 decision in his Division III qualifying match, dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Westerly’s Sebastian Bellone.

Woonsocket (2-5 Division I) hosts Tiverton today at 4.

CLARK WINS IN D-III DEFEAT

WARWICK — Pawtucket co-op freshman Jeremy Clark had no trouble with Will Foy in a straight-set win Monday afternoon, but Pawtucket suffered a 6-1 defeat to Toll Gate in a Division III match.

Clark posted a 6-2, 6-0 win, while the Tigers three other singles player – Matt Silva, Dao Thounsavat­h and Orlando Correia – all played well in straight-set defeats.

Pawtucket (3-6 Division III) finishes the season with three straight matches at Slater Park starting with Thursday’s Valley contest against North Smithfield.
