SCITUATE — It wasn’t easy, but the North Smithfield volleyball team went to Scituate and defeated the Spartans 25-23, 29-27, 30-28 behind 14 kills and three blocks from senior out- side hitter Noah Darveau.

“I thought we played well tonight,” North Smithfield coach Brad Walling said. “When we were in tough situations, the guys kept their composure and got through those points.”

North Smithfield (9-1 Division II-North) also received strong efforts from its two talented middles. Senior Tejas Bhatia had nine kills and Aldrec Viera Dones added 11 kills and three blocks. Will Reyes piloted the offense with 31 assists.

NOVANS OVERCOME SRA

PAWTUCKET — After dropping the opening game of Tuesday’s Division II-North contest against St. Raphael, the Woonsocket volleyball team came back for a 22-25, 25-13, 25-19, 2512 victory behind a team-high nine aces, seven kills, seven digs and two blocks from senior outside hitter Roger Bissonnette.

“We played pretty good in the first game, but there was some miscommunication at the end and some lack of composure,” Woonsocket coach Ruth Plante said. “They did what they had to do after the first game. They played pretty good all around. St. Raphael was really inconsistent with their serving and that helped.”

Woonsocket (3-8 Division II-North) also received six kills, eight digs and two aces from senior outside hitter Ibraim Santos-Hernandez, eight kills and five blocks from senior middle Henry Camacho and 20 assists and three aces from setter Jacob Bissonnette. The Novans travel to North Smithfield tonight.

St. Raphael (1-9 Division II-North) heads to North Smithfield Friday night.

MOUNTIES SUFFER LOSS

WARWICK — Mike DelliCarpini had eight kills and seven blocks, but that was about as good as it got for the Mount St. Charles volleyball team, which suffered a 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20 defeat to Bishop Hendricken Monday night.

“We got outplayed from start to finish,” Mount St. Charles coach Josh D’Abate said. “We just didn’t play well. Every coach wants to win every game, but we weren’t as good as our 8-0 record shows. Hopefully, tonight’s a good wake-up call for them. We just have to get back to practice and work.”

Mount St. Charles 8-1 (Division I) is back in action Thursday at North Kingstown.
