Gutierrez hits walk-off single

-

PAWTUCKET — Tolman senior pitcher Kyle Depatie saw his no-hit bid broken up with two outs in the seventh inning Friday afternoon, as Tiverton scored twice to send the Division II contest to extra innings.

Bellamy Gutierrez delivered an RBI walk-off single in the eighth inning to score Lonnie Santiago to lead the Tigers to a 3-2 victory at Slater Park.

Tolman (7-6 Division II) has now won six of its last seven league games after losing five of its first six. The Tigers have done it with pitching, as Gutierrez, Izaiah Rivera, Ethan Bernado and Depatie have all been strong on the hill.

“We won our two league games this week and we pitched well,” Tolman coach Theo Murray said. “We’re starting to turn it around, but we have another big week next week.”

Tolman scored once in the first and then Gutierrez hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to double the lead. Noel Hernandez had two hits and scored a run.

Depatie earned a no decision after allowing just one hit and no earned runs while striking out five Tigers. Bernando earned the victory after allowing one hit and striking out two in 1.1 innings of work.

The Tigers leave Pawtucket for the first time in 10 days with a game at Smithfield Monday.
