Mount cruises to win

WOONSOCKET — Dan Gould had seven kills and seven digs, while twin brother Brett Gould added 20 assists, seven digs and four kills to lead Mount St. Charles to a 2517, 25-17, 25-17 victory over North Kingstown in a Division I match Wednesday night.

Mount St. Charles (12-1 Division I) remains in first place in the division headed into Friday’s contest against Coventry. The Mounties are in the middle of a four-game homestand and they haven’t dropped a game since losing their first match of the season to Hendricken on May 10.

WOONSOCKET — Even though Jacob Bissonnett­e had four aces and eight assists and senior outside hitter Ibraim Santos-Hernandez had seven kills and nine digs, the Woonsocket volleyball team finished its first season with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 defeat to firstplace Central Wednesday night in a Division II-North contest.

The Villa Novans (6-10 Division II-North) had a chance to send the match to a fourth game when they led the oneloss Knights 23-18 in the third. Central scored the match’s final seven points to end the evening.

“I’m really happy with the way the boys played tonight,” Woonsocket coach Ruth Plante said. “If they played this way earlier in the season, we would’ve won more matches. The way they played really shows me that they are going to be better next season and we should win more matches.”
