WOONSOCKET – A Providence County grand jury has indicted a city man accused of forcibly raping a four-year-old boy.

David Delgado, 30, of 495 Front St., is facing one count of first-degree child molestation and will be arraigned in Superior Court on July 11, said Amy Kempe, spokeswoman for the Office of the Attorney General.

The indictment alleges that Delgado molested the victim “on or about multiple dates” from April 1-6 in the city.

The age or the gender of the victim were not divulged by the grand jury, but police reports provided details when Delgado was arrested on April 3.

Police say the investigation began when doctors summoned them to Landmark Medical Center after the child had been taken there by family members for an examination, suspecting the toddler had been the victim of a sexual assault. The investigation concluded that Delgado allegedly sodomized the boy on multiple occasions at a residence in the Blackstone Terrace apartment complex on Cumberland Street.

Delgado had initially been held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions following a preliminary appearance in District Court following his arrest. Court record indicate he is now free on $30,000 surety bail, secured by real estate.

Superior Court Magistrate Luis Matos entered an an order allowing Delgado’s release to home confinement on Wednesday after a bail hearing that took place on several staggered dates beginning shortly after he was arrested.

According to the judiciary’s web site, Delgado – who goes by the nickname “Babyboy” – has been arrested on roughly half a dozen occasions since 2008 on charges that include domestic assault, breaking and entering and larceny. But none of his previous contacts with police involve sex crimes.
