Businesses saluted at Worksite Health Awards

-

PROVIDENCE – In recognition of Rhode Island employers’ successful efforts to advance employee wellness and build a healthier Rhode Island, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce (the “Chamber”) have honored 68 local businesses with Worksite Health Awards. More than 400 business leaders from around the state attended the 24th annual Worksite Health Awards ceremony to celebrate the honorees efforts, which benefit thousands of Rhode Island employees.

The Worksite Health Awards are an opportunity for employers to come together to celebrate and learn from best practices while showcasing the advances being made every day to improve the health and well-being of Rhode Islanders at work.

“As a not-for-profit committed to the health of all Rhode Islanders, we’re delighted to continue our partnership with the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce as presenting sponsor of the 24th annual Worksite Health Awards,” said Melissa Cummings, executive vice president and chief customer officer of BCBSRI. “This event includes the opportunity to learn from each other’s successes, and this year we have launched a new opportunity to highlight wellness achievers, companies that have taken unique, innovative and creative approaches to prioritizing wellness and helping employees achieve and maintain their health goals.”

“In addition to the focus on physical health, workplace wellness is also about volunteering and giving back to the communities we work in. It’s creating awareness about breast cancer detection and prevention. It’s fostering social interaction and sharing of ideas, information, goodwill, and healthy lifestyles. It’s about using business as a force for good. Worksite wellness is a win-win for employers, employees and our community,” said Laurie White, president of the Chamber.

All Rhode Island businesses are eligible to apply for Worksite Health Awards, which are awarded annually, including small (100 or fewer employees) and large businesses (more than 100 employees).

Winners selected are those that demonstrate exceptional health and wellness programs and health-oriented workplace policies.
