1959

Coaches Buck Pffeferle and Dave Hartley have announced the starting lineup for the Pawtucket Little League All-Stars when they open their bid for the District 1 championsh­ip against East Providence Central. The batting order shows Butch Mendes (Albo’s) in left, Chuck Delobe (Mal’s) at short, Pete Izzi (Firefighte­rs) in center, Dick Ramos (Fairlawn) on the mound, Dennis Tente (Fairlawn) at third, Steve Bullock (Mal’s) at first, Bill Hartley (Mal’s) at second, John Hannaway (Fairlawn) in right and either Joe Audette (Albo’s) or Bill Horan (Mal’s) behind the plate.

1969

Ray Newsham fired a no-hitter, struck out 13 and belted a solo homer, a double and a single to pace the Rebels to a 12-0 win over the Jets in the Pee Wee C Division of the Pawtucket Boys’ Club-Recreation Department Baseball League. In other Pee Wee C play, Pete Slowinski spun a one-hitter, a fifth-inning double by Frank Duhamel, and whiffed 14 as the Athletics edged the Rangers 1-0. In the Midget Division, Doug Poirier clouted a circuit smash, triple and single, Jeff Calista laced a double and single and Bill Britt twirled a five-hitter with 15 strikeouts as the Secret Agents romped to a 12-2 victory over the All-Stars.

1989

All-Stater Dave Herzog of Triggs rolled in a 10-foot putt for birdie on the 17th hole to defeat Pawtucket’s Keith Quinn, 2 and 1, and capture the RIGA Junior Championsh­ip title at Metacomet Country Club. Quinn overcame a two-hole deficit after nine to take a one-hole lead with a birdie on the par-4 14th. Herzog finished with a charge, winning 15, 16 and 17 to take the crown. The two friends have played hockey together for years and were teammates at La Salle before Quinn transferre­d to Saint Raphael Academy in December.
