Shakespeare Festival kicks off Burbage at the Brewery

-

PAWTUCKET – The Burbage Theatre Co. announces the first-ever Pawtucket Shakespeare Festival, in partnership with the Pawtucket-based Isle Brewers Guild.

“The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged),” directed by Jeff Church, opens tonight and runs for eight performances through Sunday, Aug. 5, in the Isle Brewers Guild courtyard, 461 Main St.

“Shakespeare is a passion of ours here at the Burbage Theatre Co.,” said Church, its artistic director, “and we’ve always had the ambition to bring Shakespeare in the park to the Rhode Island community. And finally, after years of naught but ambition, our partnership with the Isle Brewers guild brings our dream of free outdoor Shakespeare programming to fruition.

“But we couldn’t quite decide which of Shakespeare’s thirty-seven plays to present, so we decided to present them all in one go. Three Burbage resident actors will present a feat that we believe unprecedented in the history of the theatre: to perform all of Shakespeare’s work in one evening of irreverent hilarity.”

This event is free and open to the public
