Pawtucket, Central Falls staging AmeriCorps youth recreation activities

-

PROVIDENCE – Providence Children’s Museum AmeriCorps members will bring playful, hands-on activities to select parks all summer long, building on the Museum’s commitment to advocate for and raise awareness of the critical importance of unstructured play opportunities for children throughout the community.

As part of community events hosted by parks, cities and agencies, the Museum engages families in avariety of playful, open-ended activities – fort building, bubble blowing, rocket launching, and more.

This year, a Makers’ Workbench has been added to the activity lineup, inviting the whole family to exercise their creative muscles and explore tools and materials.

Activities are offered in English and Spanish and are free to the public.

• Tuesdays and Thursdays, through Aug. 9, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jenks Park, Broad Street, Central Falls, hosted by City of Central Falls Parks and Recreation

• Sunday, Aug. 5, noon to 3 p.m., Slater Park Farmer’s Market, 825 Armistice Boulevard, Pawtucket, hosted by Farm Fresh Rhode Island.

Annually, Museum AmeriCorps members commit to a full year or a summer of service in support of increased academic achievement by designing and leading STEAM-based programs for children and involving the community in learning through play.
