The Uxbridge school system welcomes a new Director of Curriculum while a new Assistant Principal has been named at Taft Early Learning Center.

UXBRIDGE –— Schools Superintendent Frank Tiano announced the appointments of two new administrators for the upcoming school year.

Wendy Phillips is the district’s new director of curriculum, instruction and accountability, and Carla Squier has been named new assistant principal at the Taft Early Learning Center. Both administrators will begin their new positions this month.

“We are excited to welcome two quality educators and leaders to our district,” Tiano said. “They are both eager and excited to start, and I know that our students, staff, and entire community will benefit from their expertise and energy.”

Phillips was chosen from a pool of 30 applicants to replace the outgoing Director of Curriculum Rich Drolet. Phillips was previously a mathematics curriculum coordinator for the past four years in the Wakefield School District. Before that, she served in a variety of teaching and leadership positions in the Newburyport and Lowell Public School Districts, as well as serving as an adjunct professor at North Shore Community College.

Phillips earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a Master of Education from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. She is currently working toward her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in educational leadership at Salem State University.

Squier was chosen to fill the recently created position of assistant principal at the Taft Early Learning Center by Principal Marla Sirois and a team of Taft educators. She comes to Uxbridge with five years of leadership experience, most recently as a special education team chairwoman for the Walpole School District.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms and a Master of Science in education from Simmons College. She also has completed the Advanced Training Program (applied behavior analysis) at Northeastern University.

“We appreciate the efforts of our screening committees, faculty members, and stakeholders who contributed to the process of bringing these two candidates to Uxbridge,” Tiano said. “I’m excited to begin working with them.”

The upcoming school year will be Tiano’s first full-year as superintendent. He was hired by the district in April to replace former School Superintendent Kevin Carney.

Before arriving in Uxbridge, Tiano had been with the Framingham public school system since July 2015 as the assistant superintendent of schools and as the assistant superintendent of community development and engagement.

Prior to his arrival in Framingham, Tiano served in the Chelmsford Public School District for 15 years, the last five as superintendent, and 10 years in the Nashua Public School District.

Over his 27 year professional career, Tiano has held the position of elementary teacher, elementary assistant principal, elementary principal, middle school principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent.

Tiano holds a Bachelor of Science degree in management from Bentley College; a Master of Arts in teaching from Simmons College; and a Doctorate of Education from the University of Massachusetts in Lowell.
