1952 Bob Arrighi tossed a no-hitter as the Darlington Braves

blanked the Ferland Yankees 3-0 in a Darlington Little League game. Ray Adams’ RBI double and run-scoring singles by Bruce Ferri and Paul Kelly accounted for the Braves’ runs. Bob Trainor with two hits in three trips led the Braves at the plate, while Kelly stood out in the field.

1962 Charlie Karboski of the Pawtucket Country Club, a

lightly regarded contender, and Bruce Morin of West Warwick, the pre-tourney favorite, will meet for the state junior golf title at the Metacomet Country Club. Karboski fashioned two upsets, playing brilliantly to oust Stan Abrams of Pawtucket, 1-up, and then pulled another upset out of his bag to crush Anthony Amaral of Wanumetonomy, 5 and 4, in the semifinals. Karboski fired consecutive birdies from the seventh to the ninth holes and withstood Abram’s late rally, and then went out in 33 on the strength of a ninth hole eagle to defeat Amaral.

1972 Mike Boisclair’s solo homer in the sixth inning gave

the Pawtucket Elks a 1-0 win over Warwick-Zayre in a Pawtucket Pony League Frank Doheny Memorial round-robin playoff tilt. Bosiclair’s blast was the only hit allowed by Ken Martin, who fanned nine batters. Dave Cookson scattered six hits and whiffed six, while Mike Belisle and Mal Hope each had two hits in a losing effort.
