LINCOLN – A three-month-old girl was left alone inside her mother’s vehicle for 90 minutes on Wednesday morning as her mother, a Cape Cod woman, was allegedly inside Twin River Casino, Lincoln Police said.

A Lincoln Police Officer working a detail at Twin River Casino around 10 a.m. Wednesday had received information from casino security that a child had been left alone inside a parked sport utility vehicle. The officer met security personnel in the parking lot, where they found a gray 2013 Kia Sorento in the lot, with the rear driver’s side window down and the engine running, police said.

As they searched the vehicle, the officer found a three-month-old girl covered by a blanket in the back seat, police said. The infant was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital where she was reported to be in fair condition, police said.

After checking the baby’s condition, Lincoln Police immediately called for Lincoln Rescue to respond. While emergency personnel were on scene, the girl’s mother – identified as Halston A. Borglund, 26, of Cape Cod – returned to the parking lot, police said. Borglund told personnel on scene that she’d only left the infant to retrieve her keys from inside the casino, police said.

As officers and security personnel further investigated, they learned that Borglund had allegedly entered the casino around 8:28 a.m. and that the three-month-old had been left alone in the vehicle for about 90 minutes, police said.

The Department of Children, Youth, and Families was contacted and personnel from DCYF took custody of the infant, police said. Borglund was charged with cruelty or neglect of child, police said, and she was later transported to an area hospital for a medical evaluation, police said.
