Artists, vendors sought for French Heritage Festival

WOONSOCKET — The Northern Rhode Island Council of the Arts is accepting space reservatio­ns for its annual French Heritage Festival to be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 in River Island Park in Woonsocket.

Artists, crafters and vendors are invited to reserve their space early by calling Irene Blais, event chair, at 401-5953062.

This year marks the 36th Annual French Heritage Festival to be held in Woonsocket. The day is a family, fun filled event that draws hundreds of people.

Admission is free and open to the public and takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In addition to the open air market, there will be food favorites such as French meat pie and dynamites as well as other food items.

Music and dancing will be provided by the local Rhode Island band Fleur de Lis, and from Canada, Le Vent des Cantons.

There will be face painting, Bobo the Clown, and Paws and Sox, the mascots of the Pawtucket Red Sox.

In addition, students from Woonsocket will be doing chalk art and competing for a grand prize.

Following the day’s event, an evening soirée will be held at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Hall on Park Avenue in Woonsocket.

The festivitie­s start at 5:30 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. Le Vent des Canton returns at night and there will be music and dancing. Tickets are $10 and includes dynamite, beer, wine and beverages.
