WOONSOCKET — Joseph R. “Rene” Tessier, 78, of East School St., died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, in the Oakland Grove Health Center with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Rose (Bourque) Tessier.

Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Daniel and Delores (Frappier) Tessier, Joe worked as a machinist for Avery Dennison for several years prior to retiring.

He was a United States Navy Veteran for 19 years. He was former commander of Post 263 in Woonsocket, a member of the Franco American War Veterans, a lifelong member of the VFW, and the Elks Lodge BPOE 850.

Joe enjoyed fishing, reading, and going to Twin River. He was also very active in all veteran organizati­ons.

He is survived by his three stepchildr­en, Robin and her husband, Michael Emery, of Utah; Marc and his wife, Monica Atteridge, of N.C.; and Debra Jacobs of Milford, Mass.; three brothers, Lucien “Joe” Tessier of Central Falls, Theodore Patrie of Woonsocket, and Gerald Patrie of Tenn.; three sisters, Muriel Gentile of Woonsocket, Marie Desilet of Woonsocket, and Therese Huges of Floriday; nine grandchild­ren, and three great-grandchild­ren.

He was also the stepfather to the late Allen Atteridge and brother to the late Lionel Tessier, Carmen Gagne and Maurice Patrie.

A Funeral Home Service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. in the S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home 1583 Diamond Hill RD. Woonsocket, RI 02895 followed by Military Honors. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends are invited; visitation is one hour prior to the service, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
