Lincoln picks up 1st win

LINCOLN – Lincoln High may have dropped the first singles and doubles matches to Chariho Regional on Monday afternoon, but the rest of the Lions did their jobs en route to a 5-2 Division II victory. The Chargers' Gabi Huzyk snared a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Nicolette Carney at the top singles spot, but Alexus Phommachan­h, Lauren Germani and Christina Gosselin all rolled to straightse­t wins.At No. 1 doubles, the CRHS tandem of Mae Felkner and Dehlia Beaudry outlasted Lynsey Fleming and Mikayla St. Jean, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, though the Lions' duets of Aryanna Khun-Arianne Parvaresh-Kizi and Josephine Manning-Angela Kim both claimed straight-set decisions.

For Lincoln (1-2), it was its first win of the campaign. Chariho fell to 1-3.

Novans win

PROVIDENCE – Woonsocket High gained its first Division III victory of the season on Monday with a 7-0 slaying of Times2 Academy. The quartet of Holly Letourneau, Diana Kouki, Claudine Wehbe and Tiana Carpenter dropped only a single game between them in four straight-set triumph, and the three doubles; duets all won by forfeit. The Villa Novans upped their league mark to 1-3 Woonsocket 7, Times2 0

Oakers take down Tigers

PAWTUCKET – Despite two relatively quick straight-set wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, Tolman High suffered a trying 4-3 Division III defeat to Coventry at Slater Park's Mike Kenny Courts on Monday afternoon.

Senior Sarah Colson and junior Victoria Chmielinsk­i both rolled in those two spots, but then junior Alexandra Brock sailed to a 6-2, 6-3 decision over senior Taina Rodrigues at third singles, and Emma Lemoi survived a tough 6-4, 6-4 test against senior Stephanie Harwood.

The Knotty Oakers earned another brutal win at first doubles when the sophomore duet of Grace Fernandes and Annie Webb gutted out a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 verdict over senior Kim Baptista and frosh Gina Carpentier; and sophomore Jessica Koszela and junior Avamei Sowers managed a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over seniors Jennifer Miranda and Alexis Taylor. The Tigers fell to 2-4 on the campaign.
