Woonsocket, Tolman pick up Division III victories

PAWTUCKET – Woonsocket High sustained two tough defeats at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, but the rest of its lineup rolled while snaring a 5-2 Division III “home” victory over Shea at the Oak Hill neighborho­od’s Tom Duffy Courts on Wedneday afternoon. r The Raiders’ Sophia Panzo and Anike Fernandes both eked out trying triumphs over Holly Letourneau and Diana Koukhi, but the Villa Novans surged from there. At third sinrgles, Claudine Wehbe and Tianna Carpentier reigned in straight sets, as did the doubles tan- dems of Rushie Vilabe-Saimbishol­a Jackson, Emily Flannery-Natalie Wang and Rachnie Iv-Amaya Taychack.

Woonsocket improved to 2-3 in league play with the win.

PAWTUCKET – Tolman High may have captured a 7-0 Division III victory over Hope at Slater Park’s Mike Kenny Courts on Wednesday, but it wasn’t as easy as the final score indicated.

Sarah Colson cruised in the first set before garnering a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Nashly Morales at the top singles spot, while Victoria Chmielinsk­i nearly had to go to a tiebreaker before nailing down a 6-4, 6-4 win over Tayana Labady at No. 2.

And, at fourth singles, Stephanie Harwood worked for a 6-3, 6-4 verdict over Aisha Odetonde.

The Tigers upped their league mark to 3-4.
