Walk to End Alzheimer’s series ends Sunday in Providence
PROVIDENCE – The dome of the Rhode Island Statehouse will be little purple, the color of the Alzheimer’s movement, this week.
The Alzheimer’s Association of Rhode Island is working with the state to raise awareness of the disease and the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Rhode Island and to honor the more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease and the millions more who care for them.
The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Rhode Island residents to go purple and join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The first Walk kicked off in Newport at Fort Adams on Sept.r 16 with over 1,000 participants raising over $140,000 and counting! New this year, the Association held its second Walk at Misquamicut Beach in Westerly on Sept. 23. Don’t miss the third and final Walk at Roger Williams Park, Temple to Music in Providence on Sept, 30.
Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s participants complete a 2.5-to 3.5-mile walk and learn about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Walk participants also honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony. In addition to the walk, participants enjoy a live DJ, team photo opportunities, face painting, post-walk refreshments and more.
In Rhode Island alone, there are more than 23,000 people living with the disease and 53,000 caregivers.
