Autumnfest names parade float judges
WOONSOCKET — The Autumnfest Steering Committee announces this year’s selection of The Autumnfest Parade Float Judges.
According to Autumnfest General Chairman Richard Savaria, “We are honored to have such a selection of experienced individuals for this year’s parade. All selected judges have an extensive background in creativity, labor and in float fabrication.”
The first selection is former Woonsocket Educator/Administer, Carol Frisk. The second selection is Suzanne McGeehan, a Financial System Software Developer. The third selection is Linda Trudeau, TV personality in Bellingham and the fourth selection is Jenny Chan-Remka, Assistant School Superintendent for the City of Woonsocket.
All registered floats will be judged at 7:45 a.m. on parade morning (Oct. 8), near Walnut Hill Bowl on Diamond Hill Road. Floats will be judged in five categories: Most Beautiful, Mayor’s Award, Best in Parade, Most Creative and Judges Award.
The number of floats is limited to 20 and slots will be filled in the order of receipt.
To register a float in this year’s parade, interested parties may contact Richard Savaria, Autumnfest General Chairman, at 401-527-8959 or visit autumnfest.org.
Autumnfest sponsors
Autumnfest announces its 2018 sponsors for the 40th anniversary of the city’s festival.
Each year the festival depends on many local companies and organizations to contribute to make Autumnfest happen and without their support, it would not be possible. The community continues to support this festival because of their incredible generosity and pride in their city.
Autumnfest organizers especially thank CVS Health for their title sponsorship of this years’ festival and their continued support of our community.
“CVS Health is proud to be the lead sponsor of this year’s Autumnfest here in our home town of Woonsocket. For 40 years, this annual event has brought our community together and highlighted all that this great city has to offer. We look forward to participating alongside so many of our local partners at this year’s festival,” said Eileen Howard Boone, Senior Vice President, CSR & Philanthropy, CVS Health.
“We are thrilled to announce and promote these local companies and organizations who chose to support the very special 40th Autumnfest as a sponsor this year.” Garrett Mancieri, Autumnfest ViceChair and Fundraising Coordinator, said. “With the support of these sponsors, we have brought this festival to the community free of charge for 40 years and helped to boost tourism for our local economy on a very busy Columbus Day Weekend. There is no other festival that brings over 100,000 people to the Northern Rhode Island area and we are very proud to announce this years’ sponsors who helped to make it happen.”

The Autumnfest Committee was happy to join local social clubs at local fundraising events that they have been holding over the past few months to help raise funds for the 40th Autumnfest. This years’ social clubs that participated were Woonsocket Elks #850, Club Lafayette, Italian Workingmen’s Club, Tyra Club, and Le Club Par X.
Fundraising Co-coordinator Nicole Brien says, “This year, celebrating the 40th Autumnfest, the committee approached all the social clubs in the city to consider holding a fundraiser of their choice to help raise funds and bring awareness to their organizations. The overwhelming support these clubs have shown by scheduling and promoting their own events and their members volunteering their time and energy has been both humbling and gratifying to the committee.”
