Chepachet Grange sponsoring its 2nd Scarecrow Festival on Oct. 13

CHEPACHET — The Chepachet Grange is sponsoring its second Scarecrow Festival on Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. along Main Street. Scarecrows are being made by individual­s, churches, businesses, groups and organizati­ons. Scarecrows will be set up and judged in the Pavilion with judging taking place between 11 a.m. and noon.

Prizes will be awarded at 1 p.m. Categories include Classic, Humorous, Scariest, Creative and Gothic. First place will receive $50, 2nd place $25, 3rd place $15 and Best of Show $50.

You can also come as human scarecrows. A $25 prize will be awarded to the best adult and child (14 and under). Scarecrows will be judged on creativity, quality and visibility.

Families, local sports teams, boy and girl scouts are encouraged to participat­e. If your group hasn’t applied yet, applicatio­ns are available and can be obtained online at

There is a $5 fee for entering. The fee is waived for non-profit organizati­ons. Applicatio­ns must be completed by Oct. 5.

Music will be provided by local talent, Ponaganset students, and others in the Pavilion at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The Grange will be cooking hamburgers and hot dogs while chips and cider will be available. Glocester restaurant­s will also be open, serving food and providing entertainm­ent.

The Glocester Library will provide childrens’ games. Face painting and a bunny zoo will be available. Local farmers will have fresh produce, pumpkins and apples for sale.
