WOONSOCKET – A Connecticut man tied to the theft of a car and a handgun in that state was ordered held without bail at the state prison Monday following his arrest on Clinton Street.

Klay Brayman,

24, of North Stonington, was charged with possession of a stolen

motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance, Vyvanse, a prescription amphetamine.

In addition to the felony charges, Brayman was also cited for possession of marijuana and driving without a license. He faces no charges in connection with the theft of the gun, which has not been recovered.

Patrol Officer Dominic Pompei reported that he arrested Brayman Sunday about 8 p.m. after he saw him driving a green Subaru Legacy that matched a description of the stolen vehicle. Officers had been briefed on on the theft at the start of Pompei’s shift because the WPD had received a tip that a suspect in the theft of the vehicle had been in the city trying to sell a gun that was stolen in the same incident.

Police said they found seven rounds of .357 Magnum ammunition in the vehicle – but no gun. Brayman was also allegedly in possession of two doses of Vyvanse and a small amount of marijuana.

During an arraignment in Sixth District Court on Monday, a judge set bail on the charges, but he was ordered held as a bail violator on two open cases of breaking and entering out of Hopkinton. At the time of his arrest, Brayman was the target of active arrest warrants, issued by the Superior Court, on both those cases.

He is due back in court on Oct. 18 for a hearing on the violation charges, according to the judiciary’s web site.
