Octoberfes­t comes to Main Street in Douglas Saturday

DOUGLAS – This Saturday, October 6, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Main Street Douglas will be closed to traffic and opened up to thousands of people for the town’s annual Octoberfes­t.

This year, there will be four stages. The Webster First stage (Stage A) and Unibank (Stage B) stages will bookend Main Street Stage C will be located on Depot Street near the Masonic Lodge. The fourth stage will be behind the EN Jenckes store at the Beer Garden, which will be serving Berkshire Brewing beer, cider and wine!

The Midway, sponsored by Unibank, hosts bouncy rides and serves as the depot for the choo-choo train sponsored by Classic Envelope. The festival will also be accepting Visa, MC, & Discover for the midway and train.

Entertainm­ent will include local artists like the Brian James Quartet, Blue Cat Groove, Kenzie Kirby, Blackstone, Newport Ave, and the Douglas High School Chorus. The day will begin with the National Anthem being sung by the Whitinsvil­le Christian School a cappella group Encore at 9 a.m., and will finish with the crowd favorites ‘Boom Box’ and the award-winning Douglas High School Band marching down Main Street. Throughout the day, the brand new Larger than Life Parade will be dancing through the entire event.

Dog Orphans will be hosting Weiner Dog Races at the second stage. The Douglas Historical Society will be selling their famous soups and breads, In-Gear will be hosting a car show, and all your favorite foods will be available, from the Band Boosters Baked Potatoes to the Firefighte­rs French Fries, to the Kettle Corn, Troop 134’s Fried Dough and Cotton Candy, and so much more. Finally, Berkshire Brewing is bringing their finest craft and seasonal beers to our Beer Garden, located at the EN Jenckes store, which will have The Cost by Sweaters and authentic German music with the Vagabonds!
