Saints boys go 2-1

SEEKONK — St. Raphael’s biggest cross-country dual meet of the year took place Tuesday at the Wheeler Farm with three of the top five teams in the Metropolit­an Division competing.

The SRA boys went 2-1 beating Wheeler (27-30) and Moses Brown (21-34) and losing to LaSalle (21-39). St. Raphael’s Nasavell Medeiros finished in first place with a time of 16:12 and also set a course record at the Seekonk-based 3.1-mile course.

After Medeoros, other top10 finishes for the Saints included senior captain Reilly Johnston (sixth, personal-best 16:23) and Darius Kipyego (10th, personal-best 16:55). Colby Luiz, a junior, had his best race of the season with a PR of 19:14 and helped the Saints seal a bid to next month’s state meet.

Rounding out the scoring for the Saints was Ryan Deschene (personal-best 20:53). The Saints ended their dual meet season at 8-2 and in a tie for second place in the Metropolit­an Division. It is the Saints’ best finish since 2001 and the first time they have qualified for back-to-back state championsh­ips since that time.

On the girls side, the Saints finished Tuesday’s meet with a win over Moses Brown (15-50) but lost to La Salle (17-46) and Wheeler (21-40). Rachael Mongeau continued her strong season with a fourth-place finish that doubled as a personal best (19:35). The second SRA finisher was Alexi Angell with a season-best time of 23:13.

Other Lady Saints that helped the team beat Moses Brown included Lily Cousineau, Shyanne Schneider, Larisa Ventura and Katherine Baxter.
