WOONSOCKET — Want to meet the candidates for City Council and School Committee? Then Savini’s Pomodoro, 476 Rathbun St., is the place to be, starting at 6 tonight. The crop of candidates for the two boards – 21 in all – have been invited to a forum to introduce themselves to the community and explain what they stand for. It’s not a debate, according to Jeff Gamache, programming director of radio station WNRI, sponsor of the event. Because the field of candidates is so unwieldy, there isn’t enough time to debate issues or question each of them individually. So each candidate will be allowed five minutes to self-deliver an uninterrupted summary of his or her candidacy. Although the plan didn’t originally call for any other presentations, Gamache said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt and her challenger, former City Council President Albert G. Brien, have been invited to the event to take advantage of the same opportunity extended to council and school committee candidates. It’s unknown whether they will appear, Gamache said. The event will last about two hours, with members of the School Committee first in line for the podium. The order was chosen to accommodate incumbents on that panel, who have to be present for a regularly scheduled meeting later in the evening.
