measure of doubt that he is the best cross-country runner in the state by romping to a 40-yard victory in the state meet held at the hilly 2.5-mile Our Lady of Providence Seminary course in near record time. McLaughlin over took unbeaten Class A champion Bobby Doyle of Hope on the second hill and quickly opened up a sizeable lead to coast to his 40-yard advantage over runner-up Henry Vierra of East Providence. McLaughlin finished in 12:25.3 just shy of Doyle’s course record of 12:24.4 set a week ago in the class championships.
