1966 Heavyweight Bob DePiero of Woonsocket will meet
Sylvester Dulaire of Springfield in a return bout on tonight’s amateur boxing program at the R. I. Auditorium. DePiero, who scored a first round TKO over John Janson in his first start of the season a month ago, shaded Dulaire by a split decision on November 1 after the latter had put together a long string of triumphs, including decisions over Bob Hill and Arthur (Porkchop) Pare here at the Auditorium. In another bout, Ray Wenzel of Pawtucket will tangle with Frank Threats of Providence in a battle of 135-pounders with Wenzel seeking his second victory in as many bouts. 1986 Lincoln running back Frank Chartier was the top receiv
er in the Blackstone Valley with 21 receptions and Dave Zaborski of Saint Raphael Academy was the yardage and aerial touchdown pacesetter with 342 and five, respectively. Rounding out the top pass-catchers are Carl Hargreaves of Tolman with 16 and tied for third with 14 are Zaborski and Mike Messier of Tolman. Steve Moreau led all signal-callers with 54 completions, 130 passes, 871 yards and nine TD tosses. SRA’s QB Ed Hunt edged Tommy O’Connor of Cumberland by 19 yards for second place, 747 to 728 yards.

quite like the diminutive Saint Raphael Academy harrier Marisa Olivo as she finished first in the Class C championships, fourth in the state meet, first in the City of Pawtucket meet, third at the Manhattan Invitational and ninth at the Guilderland (N.Y.) Invitational where she broke former SRA standout Becky Pereira’s course record. Olivo was named to the All-State first-team and to The Times area first team along with fellow Saints’ Catlin Sampers and Amy Elliott, Michelle Costa of Cumberland, Barbara Swallow of Seekonk and Bishop Feehan teammates Katie Schroth and Nadine O’Connell. “As far as distance runners go, Marisa is our No. 2 girl of all-time harriers,” said Saints girls coach Debbie Doyle.
