DeSousa delivers for MCL

WOONSOCKET — Cumberland freshman forward Sarah DeSousa scored a pair of goals in the first 28 seconds in the first period of undefeated Mount St. Charles/ Cumberland/Lincoln School co-op girls hockey team’s showdown with undefeated Burrillvil­le/Ponaganset/Bay View co-op Friday night at Adelard Arena.

DeSousa finished off her hat trick in the third period, while Lincoln School sophomore goalie Amelia Lambert made 33 saves to lead the Mounties to a 4-1 Division I victory over Amelia Lambert.

BPBV (3-1 Division I) received a third-period goal from Bay View’s Lizzy Ng, who took a pass from Burrillvil­le sophomore Maddie McCutcheon.

MCL (4-0 Division I) grabbed the lead 19 seconds into the first period on DeSou- sa’s first goal. Nine seconds later Mount’s Macee Salley and Mia Mollicone assisted the Clipper freshman for a goal.

Salley extended the lead to three 5:36 into the second period, and then Cumberland senior Elise Curren found DeSousa for a third-period goal to finish MCL’s scoring. The Mounties, after last night’s game at reigning state champion East Bay co-op, hosts Cranston/EG Friday night at 5 p.m. BPBVis off until Jan. 4 when East Bay comes to Levy Rink.
