1970 Behind the shooting of Larry Caswell and Bob Mendes,

The Scene notched its third straight win of the season downing the previously unbeaten Rowe Aces 76-59 in the Pawtucket Boys’ Club Senior Alumni Basketball League. Caswell fired in a game-high 19 points, Mendes netted 16, Mike Smith hooped 14 and Bullock had 12. Tom McGrath took honors for the Aces with 15 points followed by Newman Carr with 14 and Mike Reeder with 12.

reen Hill and Kathy Rahill caged four apiece as Saint Raphael Academy overcame an 8-7 first period deficit en route to a 49-25 thumping of Mount Pleasant in the opening round of the R. I. Coaches Associatio­n Tournament at RIC’s Walsh Center. Lynch finished with a game-high 21 points and Hill chipped in with 14. “Everybody scored in the second quarter,” said SRA coach Bill Girard, “which shows that our offense was running well.”

1990 Chris Jasmin’s tip in with 57 seconds left gave North

Smithfield a 3-2 win over Cumberland in a Woonsocket Call Classic Hockey Tournament opening round tilt at Adelard Arena. Derek Jordan assisted by Todd Greenough also scored for NS, while Greg Guay and Brian MacDonald found the back of the net for the Clippers. In other tourney play, Lincoln goalie Scott Cline was impressive in making 21 saves, a couple of them coming on breakaways, but it was not enough as Burrillvil­le defeated the Lions 3-1.
