Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center names new board president

The Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center (BVAC) recently announced Carol Osso as the new board president, effective Jan. 1st.

Osso joined the board in 1998. Shortly thereafter she became board secretary until March 2010, when she became the board’s vice president.

“I’m very excited to take on this new responsibi­lity.” Osso said. “BVAC has seen tremendous growth in the past few years and I’m confident that will continue. I’m extremely proud of the work the staff does to help victims of domestic violence.”

“Carol has been an integral part of BVAC for over 30 years,” said Toni Marie Gomes, BVAC executive director. “Her devotion to our organizati­on will help continue the agency’s legacy of providing comprehens­ive services to victims of domestic violence and their families in our service area.”

The board will occur additional changes. Board Secretary Holly Ferrara will become vice pesident and board member Siobhain Sullivan will become secretary. Tony Nobrega will continue to be the board’s treasurer. Shirley Carter, who has been the board president since 2010, stepped down from her position but will remain a board member. The other members of the board include Dr. Earl Marrow and Tony Afonso.

Aside from her duties on the BVAC board, Osso has worked for The Allied Group for 16 years as a manager, and prior to that worked for Mercury Print and Mail in Pawtucket for 29 years. She was also Big Sister of the Year in 1994. She has been a resident of Pawtucket for over 50 years. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, three children, and six grandchild­ren.

BVAC has been providing services to victims of domestic violence in the Blackstone Valley area for three decades. They are a nonprofit organizati­on whose mission is to provide comprehens­ive services to victims of domestic violence and to provide education and awareness on the issue of domestic violence.
