CHARGERS STOP CLIPPERS

-

WOOD RIVER JCT. — Casey Farrell knocked down three 3-pointers and scored a team-high 17 points, while Madison Zancan added 15 points, but the Cumberland girls basketball team suffered a 56-47 Division II road defeat to Chariho Tuesday night.

Cumberland (1-3 Division II) overcame a six-point halftime deficit to build a 38-36 advantage when Farrell knocked down a jumper, but the Chargers responded with a hoop from Kate Powers and a pair of free throws from Shelby Roode. The Chargers went to the line 18 times to Cumberland’s five.

“I like the effort, but I was frustrated with the amount of turnovers we committed,” Cum- berland coach George Coderre said. “Their fast guard [Spencer] Shiels created most of the turnovers because she was so quick.”

The Chargers received a game-high 22 points from Powers, while Shiels chipped in with 17.

The Clippers are back home tomorrow night when Classical comes to the Wellness Center.
