Marcotte, NS split meets

PROVIDENCE – Senior Rita Marcotte captured the 1,500 meters (5:51.36) and the 1,000 meters to help North Smithfield High gain a 60-45 Bayha Division victory over Central at the Providence Career & Technical Academy fieldhouse on Thursday night.

Unfortunately, those and other placements weren’t enough to withstand a 7434 beatdown by Cranston East in the second half of the double-dual meet.

Freshman Jackie deRonde helped notch more points with a pair of thirds in the 55 hurdles and 300 and a fourth in the high jump, while senior Brittany Beaudoin produced a runner-up in the long jump (14-3) and third in the high jump.

600. d In other divisional action, uSt. Raphael crushed Bay View, 75-29, but also was on the back end of a lopsided 74-34 defeat to Pilgrim.

Still, frosh Christine Kizekai tied for first in the 55 dash with Pats’ senior Ciannie Foster (7.77), then took second in the 300 (47.40).

The only other victory for the Saints came from junior Stephanie Murphy in the 55 hurdles (10.41); she also placed third in the high jump behind her older sister, junior Elizabeth, who took second

with a leap of 4-2.

On the same evening, Tolman sustained three losses to Chariho (69-26), Ponaganset (50-34) and Mount Hope (53-27), but a pair of Tigers fared quite well.

Junior Abbie Jammeh swept the shot put (27-3) and the 20-pound weight toss (31-7), while sophomore Nia DaCruz settled for second in both the 55 hurdles (11.10) and 55 dash (8.21).
